About
John 3:16 is a classic New Testament text, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
And there it is, the gospel summed up in one verse. What else do you need? Certainly not the Old Testament with its angry God, and list of archaic names, and the Law. But wait, you can’t get past the second word in that quintessential New Testament verse without knowing the Old Testament.
How do you know who God is? What is he like? What are his desires? Who is his son? And what is his relationship to us? To answer any of these questions you need to go to the Old Testament. In fact, trying to read the New Testament without understanding the Old Testament is like being a blind man in an art museum. The OT Strikes Back is here to explore the Old Testament. The devotions, observations, and everything else here are meant to bring a spring board into a part of the Bible many Christians avoid.
